Hannah's House Charity 10th June 2010

Last month I was approached by a group of students from West Coast Institute of training to cover a charity event which is a final semester assignment for them.

Last night's charity dinner was held at Joondalup Resort and it wasn an honour to be part of such a wonderful evening. With a wandering musician, caricature artist, raffles and auctions. Congratulations to Trisha, Michelle and Tess for a great event. I hope all your goals for the evening were reached and look forward to completing the portrait sitting which was to be auctioned off.
"Hannah’s House will provide a home away from home for children with life limiting conditions and their families.  It will be a safe, fun place where children can feel comfortable and cared for, and where parents are given the opportunity to take a break and have some well deserved time for themselves.
Hannah Watson is the inspiration!  Hannah was born in November 1991 with a rare condition called Opitz Trigonocephaly and around fifty percent of children with this condition die before their first birthday.  Hannah survived the crucial first year and with occupational, speech and physiotherapy was able to move and vocalise.  But at twenty one months, Hannah suffered a three day seizure and her health declined.  She found it difficult to swallow, move, vocalise or display emotions and has to be fed through a gastronomy button.  Now seventeen years old, Hannah needs 24 hour nursing care including hourly feeding, oxygen therapy and management of distress and agitation.  Hannah’s parents, Jacky and Martin, care for Hannah at home with a small team of committed carers.
Hannah’s need for constant care can be exhausting for the Watson family.  They can rarely enjoy doing things on the spur of the moment or make much time to relax.  Jacky and Martin’s experiences have inspired them to work towards building a facility to help parents in similar situations.
Their goal is to build a centre called Hannah’s House."
